"I try not to meddle in the parenting of others. It’s their business, but I obviously have my opinions. I mostly have oppositions to the 'Christian Parenting' giants who like to write books making generalizations about how to parent my child unto godliness, all the while knowing nothing about me. I don’t just disagree with their methods, I disagree with their theology and their lack of discretion. How do they know to whom they are teaching? How do they know their methods are being properly prescribed? And mostly, how can they not see that this method of 'discipline' obscures the person and work of Christ when a parent cannot forgive their child until there has been punishment for their sins? Are not our Christian children under the Fount of Grace as much as we are?"

Reading? nothing exciting right now, just my ancient history text. I think it is history for dummies * rolls eyes*. It tends to be very repetitive and for someone who actually likes history, it is very boring. Although I will be reading more next week after the semester ends for my summer reading club at my church. I have two books picked out already: The Silver Sword
and The Golden Cross
by Angela Elwell Hunt. WIll come back and let you know how they are.
I’m really thankful for some time for lighter reading, now that the diss. is done. I recently finished “Under the Tuscan Sun
” and its sequel “Bella Tuscany
” (fun for their lavish descriptions of scenery in Italy, and some fun recipes stuck within the narrative). And I just refinished Tolkien’s trilogy
, it seemed fitting after finishing a big journey in my life and moving onto new things.
Not sure what will be next…
Well, that recent book give away inspired me to pick up my copy of Families Where Grace Is in Place
again. It really is such a great book! But beyond that, I’m only reading very light fiction right now. I remember a time when I was reading deep meaningful novels, but all of my braincells seem devoted to other things right now. Light fiction feels very refreshing.
I’m reading Just How Married Do You Want to Be
with my husband and really enjoying it. Sarah Sumner presents her view of a Biblical marriage and both my hubby & I are connecting really well to what she has to say. It’s sort of a follow-up to her book Men & Women in the Church
, but you wouldn’t have had to read that to read this.
I *was* reading _Reading Lolita in Tehran
_ and John Maxwell’s _360′ Leader
_, but since I started reading _When Organizing Isn’t Enough
_ by Julie Morgenstern … I havn’t been reading the others. I *love* Julie Morgenstern.
I just finished reading a cheesy, silly novel. . . I’m working on a book about nonprofit management for a class I’m taking, and slowly reading “Calvin and the Duchess
.”
I just packed up 15(!) boxes of kids books / school books. And since we’re trying to both downsize and get ready for a potential move, I’m going through the books, sorting, giving away, packing for storage. And. . . wow! I have a lot of books that I really, really want to read and haven’t yet. *blush*
