I checked IKEA's website and they all seem too small, less than 20 inches in height. I'm looking for something that will last into early elementary age and that will look good in DS's room. Any suggestions?

Have you checked out the furniture at Discount School Supply?

Also you could thrift a table and cut the legs down. Like we have a farmhouse table we use for a desk, I think it'd be easy to whack some of the legs off and it'd be a cute table for kids... I'd do that if it wasn't our desk table!

I have a friend who did the "whack off the legs of a farm table" and it looks *very* cute and sturdy.

We have a larger table that I got on sale at a children's furniture store. I had a hard time finding it... kept thinking they same thing you are -- that they were all too small.

I really like the idea of this one from Land of Nod. You buy different sets of legs so that it can be "adjustable" as your kids grow. I'd like to think that the longevity of the table makes up for the steep price tag, but I'm not so sure!

Also, I saw a big old oak desk with the legs chopped off at goodwill.  There was extra storage because it still had the drawers but it was kid size.

I LOVE that one from Land of Nod! Dh was looking at the Ikea tables so this thread comes just in time, I was thinking they were really small too.

I kind of like this one for price and simplicity.

They have that one Lavendar Mom posted too!

I'm not so sure about the chopped table - good in theory, but I hate shopping - so the hunt would not be fun for me and niether DH not I are handy - I mean I'd be afraid it wouldn't sit right after we tried our hand at it.  Confused

I got a toddler sized table because I've seen 7 year olds sitting at them fine, and I was more concerned with 1-2 yo falling out of the chair/not being able to easily sit.  I figure if we NEED a kids table when they are bigger we will sell the one we have, but my 5 yo can sit at our regular table pretty well.   The table we have is from the Little Tikes Mission Line, but they are hard to find now, must have stopped making them.

Our neighbor gave us her son's little tikes table with a bench attached on either side.  It's in the basement/play area.  I sit on the bench sometimes.  It's not beautiful, probably it's meant for outdoors more than indoors.
